Director of Writing Across the Curriculum, Carleton College
Carleton College seeks a Director of Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC). The new Director will build upon a nationally recognized WAC program that is deeply established in the curriculum and supported by a long-standing institutional commitment to faculty development. Carleton’s WAC program includes first-year seminars and writing rich courses offered in every discipline across the college, as well as a required senior integrative exercise. Its centerpiece is a required sophomore writing portfolio; portfolios are read annually by approximately 40 faculty and staff. The evaluation of portfolios offers valuable opportunities for faculty development and assessment of college-wide learning goals. Faculty development also takes place in workshops held every winter break. Annual faculty participation in workshops connected to WAC and other initiatives has typically exceeded 40%. This position reports to an Associate Dean of the College.
Carleton seeks to develop these strengths and to further enrich the teaching of writing across the curriculum. The new director will have the opportunity to generate new curricular initiatives as well as to work with ongoing campus initiatives.
This is a full-time year-round position with administrative responsibilities; the Director will also hold a non-tenure track faculty appointment and have regular opportunities for teaching.
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. (in any field), at least 2-4 years of experience working with writing across the curriculum, strong teaching skills and demonstrated teaching experience, and a dedication to the mission of a highly-selective residential liberal arts college. Visit our online posting for further specifics.
To apply, candidates should submit a letter of application that addresses the goals of WAC at a liberal arts college, a CV, and contact information for three references online at jobs.carleton.edu.
Review of applications will begin on December 5th, 2016.
Inquiries may directed to George Shuffelton, Associate Dean of the College (firstname.lastname@example.org).
