Looking for New MWCA Board Members
We are looking for engaged and active writing center staff and directors to join the MWCA Executive Board. Whether you are focused on gathering folks in your state or local area, or you want to get to know peers in writing centers across the region, joining the MWCA Board is a great way to reach out and get involved!
As a regional nonprofit organization and an affiliate of the International Writing Centers Association, the Midwest Writing Centers Association (MWCA) encourages communication and collaboration among writing centers in the Midwestern region of the United States, which include Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Upper Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Our mission is to assist writing centers in promoting clear and effective writing, offer support to those who are involved in writing center work, and encourage scholarly activities, such as primary/secondary research and presentations/publications of research results. The MWCA regularly awards research and travel grants to applicants from its membership, maintains a blog, Midwest Voices, and holds a regional conference every other year.
Who should join MWCA Board?
Anyone who is currently serving in a writing center in the MWCA region is invited to a nomination for the board. Board members serve three-year terms after election. This year we have five people rotating off the board and we are looking for nominations that more fully represent the diversity of our membership.
What is the workload like?
The MWCA Executive Board meets virtually once a month. The summer months are generally pretty quiet, but there’s more activity around a conference year. Most board tasks are divided among board members based on their skills and interests; board members typically spend between 2-6 hours a month supporting MWCA’s mission and programs.
How do I get involved?
If you, or someone you know, would like to join the Board, please share this message! In order to make a nomination, please send an email expressing your interest and include a short bio or statement about yourself and your interests to Kat Bell at email@example.com. Statements should be no more than 300 words.
The deadline for self-nominations is Friday, February 16th.
